Montenegro

The route from the Bay of Kotor into northern Montenegro crosses a rapid succession of very different landscapes: dry rocky slopes, deep wooded canyons and the open high country of Durmitor. Around Žabljak, dark conifer forest and glacial lakes sit directly below pale limestone peaks.

The Durmitor Ring opens the view towards the Tara and Sušica canyons before the road turns south again. Clear rivers and deep forest follow around Mrtvica Canyon; farther south, the broad wetlands and mountain-backed water of Lake Skadar bring the series to a quieter close.
