The Black Redstart is a bird of cliffs and rocky ground that has readily adapted to buildings and industrial sites. It feeds from upright perches and repeatedly quivers its bright rusty tail.

ID tip: The rusty-orange tail is visible in every plumage. Adult males are sooty dark with a pale wing panel, while females and young birds are plainer grey-brown.
