The Common Wood Pigeon is Europe's largest common pigeon and thrives in both wooded countryside and cities. It feeds mostly on plant material and often gathers in large flocks outside the breeding season.

ID tip: The white neck patch and broad white wing band identify adults. Juveniles lack the neck patch but still show the heavy build, pinkish chest and white wing band.
