The European Robin is a familiar but strongly territorial woodland bird whose clear song can be heard through much of the year. It often feeds close to the ground, watching for insects exposed in leaf litter or disturbed soil.

ID tip: Adults have an orange-red face and breast bordered by grey. Juveniles lack orange entirely and are covered in fine golden-brown spots, but already show the compact shape and large dark eye.
