Wrens

About 90 species, nearly all American; a single species reached Eurasia. Small, brown, finely barred and short-winged, with a habit of cocking the tail upright. The song is loud out of all proportion to the body, and several species hold very large repertoires or sing precisely timed duets between pairs. Many build multiple nests of which only one is used. The family name refers to the habit of creeping into cavities.
