Black-capped Chickadee

The Black-capped Chickadee is a small songbird with a black cap and throat, white cheeks and grey wings. It lives in deciduous and mixed woodland and often joins mixed-species flocks in winter. Insects form much of the summer diet, while seeds and cached food are important in cold weather. Its chick-a-dee call varies with the level of danger. Pairs excavate nest holes in soft or decaying wood.
