The Common Chiffchaff is a small leaf warbler of woodland and scrub across Europe and Asia. Many populations migrate south in autumn, while others remain closer to their breeding range through winter.

ID tip: The compact shape, short primary projection, dark legs and habit of dipping the tail help separate it from similar leaf warblers. The repeated chiff-chaff song is decisive in spring and summer.
