The Common Chaffinch is one of Europe's most widespread woodland finches and is equally at home in parks, gardens and farmland. It often feeds on the ground below trees and gathers into flocks outside the breeding season.

ID tip: Two strong white wing bars and white outer tail feathers show in both sexes. Males have a blue-grey crown and warm pink underparts; females are subdued olive-brown.
