The Eurasian Collared-Dove is a pale grey-buff dove with a narrow black half-collar and a long squared tail. It feeds mainly on seeds and grain around towns, farms and gardens and often perches on wires or exposed branches. The three-parted coo is repeated throughout much of the year. Birds introduced in the Bahamas in the 1970s spread through Florida and then across much of North America. The species is now a common resident in many settled areas of the western United States.

ID tip: Compared with a Mourning Dove, it is larger and paler, with a squared rather than pointed tail, broad white tail corners and a narrow black collar on the nape.
