The European Turtle Dove is a long-distance migrant that breeds across much of Europe and western Asia and winters in sub-Saharan Africa. It depends on varied open country with seed-rich feeding ground and nearby trees or scrub for nesting.

ID tip: The scaled chestnut-and-black wing coverts, striped black-and-white neck patch and dark tail with a broad white tip separate it from plainer collared doves.
