The Mute Swan is a very large waterbird native to much of temperate Eurasia. It feeds mainly by upending in shallow water and forms long-lasting pairs that defend nesting territories.

ID tip: Adults are white with an orange bill, black facial mask and prominent black knob. The neck is often held in an elegant S-curve; juveniles are grey-brown with a duller bill.
