The Pigeon Guillemot is a medium-sized auk with a slender bill and bright red feet. Breeding adults are black with a bold white wing patch, while winter birds are mottled grey and white. It stays close to rocky coasts and dives for fish and bottom-dwelling invertebrates. Pairs nest in crevices, cavities and spaces beneath shoreline structures. Unlike many auks, it usually breeds in scattered pairs rather than dense colonies.
