Red-breasted Nuthatch

The Red-breasted Nuthatch is a small, active bird of conifer forests. It climbs along trunks and branches in all directions and often descends head-first while searching for insects and seeds. The black eye-line, white eyebrow and rusty underparts separate it from other North American nuthatches. Northern populations may move far south in years with poor cone crops. Pairs coat the entrance of the nest cavity with sticky conifer resin.
