The Western Gull is a large gull of the Pacific coast with a dark grey back, pink legs and a heavy yellow bill. It is rarely found far inland and remains close to coasts, islands and estuaries. The diet includes fish, marine invertebrates, carrion, eggs and chicks of other seabirds. The species breeds in colonies on islands and coastal cliffs. In Washington and Oregon it hybridises extensively with the Glaucous-winged Gull.
