The drive south went through the smoke of the Spokane fires. The haze is in the photographs, with the sun a flat disc over the ridges. Not much on the way. But at the cabin, two birds new to the list: a Common Nighthawk working the dusk sky on long, banded wings, and a Rufous Hummingbird holding a wire. More, perhaps, in the days to come.

Rufous Hummingbird on a wire at the cabin, new to the list, and one of the great migrants for its size.
