The Greater Flamingo is the largest and palest flamingo, occurring around the Mediterranean and across parts of Africa and southern Asia. Flocks feed by sweeping their specialised bills upside down through shallow water.

ID tip: Adults are very pale pink with a pink bill tipped black. The black flight feathers and bright red-pink wing coverts become conspicuous in flight; young birds are largely grey-brown.
