The Pine Siskin is a small, heavily streaked finch with a pointed bill and patches of yellow in the wings and tail. It feeds mainly on seeds from conifers, alders, birches and weeds. Flocks are highly mobile and may be common in one winter and absent the next. The species often visits feeders and mixes with goldfinches. Females build well-insulated nests and remain on them during cold weather while males bring food.
