Yesler Swamp and Union Bay

Yesler Swamp from about 18:40, overcast and around 25 °C, and almost nothing moving. Ducks on the pond, a raccoon that did not wait for the camera, and two birds heard that neither the ear nor the recording could hold. Union Bay from 19:15, and it turned around at once: a flicker at the entrance, blackbirds working the cattails, and at the south end the two Bald Eagles that have lately been using the same perch. They went up after a long wait, which is the part that is in the photographs. The find of the evening was back on the pond, and it took until the files were open to see it: one of the ducks was a Gadwall, the first for this list. The bill decided it: a dark culmen with a straight orange edge. The white speculum, the mark the species is named for, was burnt out by the light and carried nothing at all. The other ducks stay off the list. At fifty metres the frames do not hold enough to say what they were.
