Megaceryle alcyon

The Belted Kingfisher is a large crested kingfisher with a blue-grey back and a broad breast band. Females also have a rust-coloured band across the belly, making them more colourful than males. It watches from exposed perches and dives into water to catch fish and other aquatic prey. Pairs excavate long nest tunnels in bare earth banks. Its loud, dry rattle is often heard before the bird is seen.
