The Great Reed Warbler is the largest European reed warbler and breeds in tall, flooded reedbeds across Europe and western Asia. Its loud, harsh song often reveals it long before the bird climbs into view on a reed stem.

ID tip: Its large size, heavy bill, warm brown upperparts and strong pale eyebrow separate it from smaller Acrocephalus warblers. It often looks thrush-sized when perched low in reeds.
