The best day of the whole fortnight, and not close: seventeen species new to the list in one go, eleven of them at Oyhut alone. Good weather over a large expanse of tidal flat, with flocks of dowitchers and sandpipers working it, the sort of place where the problem stops being finding birds and starts being sorting them. The evening at Seabrook brought a run of new gulls, and with them the education that identifying immature large gulls is genuinely hard, and that everyone who tells you otherwise is looking at an adult.
